USWNT duo Catarina Macario and Mia Fishel included on Chelsea's USA preseason roster

Mia Fishel and Cat Macario have traveled with Chelsea for the U.S. preseason tour.

  WHAT HAPPENED?

  After suffering an ACL tear in February of this year, U.S. women's national team forward Mia Fishel is back in the mix with Chelsea. She's traveled with the Blues to the United States for their preseason tour. Alongside her is fellow USWNT forward Catarina Macario, who missed the Paris Olympic Games due to "minor knee irritation" after coming back from her own respective ACL injury journey earlier this year.

• THE BIGGER PICTURE

  Under new manager Sonia Bompastor, who replaced Emma Hayes, the Blues are set to begin their preparation for the 2024-25 Women's Super League campaign. The team has traveled to the U.S. for a series of matches and training sessions before their campaign begins.

  They begin with a match on August 19 against NY/NJ Gotham FC, and then take on WSL rivals Arsenal in Washington DC on August 25, part of the Spirit's double-header series at Audi Field.

  WHAT SONIA BOMPASTOR SAID

  "I think it’s really important to spend time with the players and the tour is the perfect opportunity to do that," Bompastor said. "We will be together for almost 10 days; practicing, the games and living together – it’s then when you learn more about people.

  "It’s as equally important to know about the player and the person. I have already had individual conversations trying to get to know them better. I know them better as players because as manager I have played against most of them and I already know how much quality I have in my squad, but it is also knowing about them, their families and life away from football."

  "The tour will be a perfect opportunity to do all that," the manager added.
